June 24-30: Alma 13-16
Topics: 1) Melchizedek Priesthood; 2) When bad things happen.
Our discussion begins with an in-depth look at the Melchizedek Priesthood as described in Alma 13. I share my critical views on the concept of priesthood in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, questioning its exclusivity and the power dynamics it creates.
We then move on to the difficult topic of why bad things happen to good people, prompted by the disturbing events in Alma 14. I offer a perspective that challenges traditional explanations, suggesting that our heavenly parents are not micromanaging our lives, but rather allowing us to exercise our agency, with all the accompanying joys and sorrows.
Finally, we analyze the notion of prophetic power and its limitations, as illustrated in Alma's response to the suffering of innocents. This episode aims to spark thoughtful discussions and provide a space for honest reflection. Thank you for listening, and I hope you enjoy this thought-provoking exploration.
